Genetic testing at molecular level is done to identify single gene mutations, single nucleotide polymorphisms etc. DNA can be isolated from almost any cell types like peripheral blood, epithelial cells (cheek swab), bone marrow, amniocytes, pap smear cells, or any surgically removed human material using salting out technique.
The DNA thus obtained can be analyzed by Polymerase chain reaction, agarose gel electrophoresis, poly acrylamide gel electrophoresis, micro satellite instability analysis etc.
