Multifactorial / complex disorders

Multifactorial or complex disorders are commonly occuring diseases which have a genetic component but do not follow a simple mendelian inheritance (Inheritance link).  Several genes are associated with each disease.

The genetic contribution of a panel of these genes can be currently tested to identify an individual’s risk.

The genetic counsellor can convey the risk to the treataing health professional for appropriate drug intervention, life style changs etc to delay/prevent the symptoms of the disease.
